Mental Health at Work
13 May 2019
Mental Health Awareness Week takes place in May each year. This year’s focus is body image, how we think and feel about our bodies.
As employers we can play a vital role in supporting employees to have and maintain good mental health. Good employment practices can have an impact on the health and wellbeing of our staff. There are a number of simple ways employers can support staff to achieve a healthy work life balance, including:
• Encourage physical activity at work
• Ensure good communication throughout your organisation
• Provide employees with appropriate support
• Acknowledge the work and contribution of your employees
There is a solid business case for employers to pay attention and take action as more and more workplace absences are related to mental health conditions with many of these citing stress at work as a cause.
