Emergency Leave

emergency leave

Entitlement to take leave is usually clear-cut.  For example, annual leave and public holidays, maternity/paternity/adoption/parental leave, and daily and weekly breaks.

Decisions about emergency leave can be trickier.  The law requires your decisions as an employer to be “reasonable”, but is vague about
what situations are included and what amount of leave should be granted.

Our Information Note on emergency leave gives examples of the types of situations you might come across along with advice about reaching reasonable decisions.  Information about emergency leave is also included in the EVH Terms and Conditions of Employment.
