Health & Safety Forum - Seasonal Risks, Driving and Staff Safety

11 Nov 2026 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Our Health & Safety Forums are a valuable opportunity where members receive support and advice from ACS and EVH, whilst networking with other EVH members.  Join us for our next quarterly H&S Forum covering Seasonal Risks, Driving and Staff Safety on Wednesday 11 November 2026.

As darker days and challenging weather set in, winter brings additional risks for staff working in housing, maintenance, offices, and community settings.  This practical forum will explore how employers can prepare and adapt working arrangements to keep their people safe throughout the winter months

This forum will cover:-

  • Driving and Cycling for Work in Winter - managing journeys in darkness, ice and poor weather, vehicle, and cycle safety, and when to delay or change travel plans.
  • Lone Working in the Dark - protecting staff carrying out home visits, property inspections, repairs, and community work during darker hours.
  • Keeping in Touch and Looking Out for Each Other - check-in procedures, staff communication, emergency contacts, and practical tools to support lone and mobile workers.
  • Adapting Work for Winter Conditions - reviewing working hours, daylight levels, outdoor tasks, travel arrangements, and risk assessments.
  • Winter Workplace Hazards - preventing slips, trips and falls, managing icy paths, poor lighting and unsafe access to properties or sites.
  • Managing Challenging Situations – During wintertime there is a recognised increase of alcohol and substance use (and abuse) due to extended hours of darkness.  How do you prepare staff for home visits during these times?

The forum is free and will be held in Betty’s Room, 5th Floor, 137 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3EW.  Registration and networking will start at 9.15am, and tea and coffee will be available.  The session will commence at 9.30am and conclude at 12.30pm.

To book please complete the booking form in the downloads section, spaces are initially limited to one person per organisation to give everyone a fair opportunity to attend.  As this is a popular event, bookings will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis so early booking is advisable to secure your place.  If you wish any additional spaces, you can ask to add names to the waiting list and if we can accommodate them, we will contact you on Friday 6 November.
