Ardenglen is a community based housing association established in 1990. We operate from a modern office in Castlemilk, Glasgow, own, and manage 1,000 homes for rent.

As we launch the Castlemilk Food Pantry and its Pantry Plus initiative we are looking for a motivated, dynamic and resilient individual to join our dedicated Operations Team as our Community Development Worker.

You will be working to support the development of our innovative community food pantry and associated wrap around project “Pantry Plus”.  You will be expected to deliver excellent performance across all areas of the project as well as ensuring that high quality of customer service is in line with our vision and values.

You will be dynamic and engaging with excellent communication, management, leadership and coaching skills and will play a central role in the development of this new and exciting project. You will work closely with the community of Castlemilk as well as wider networks and key partners to ensure they influence and shape the pantry.  You will also link in with other proposed pantry projects across Glasgow in supporting the development of a learning and skills resources sharing network.

Your main responsibility will be to ensure that local connections are in place to empower local residents, build relationships and offer a dignified approach to address food poverty, not only in the local community, but also at a household and strategic level.

Over the 3 year period you will target hard-to-reach households and those most affected by food poverty and encourage and support to overcome barriers and helping them to build resilience in order to better manage household finances, access good quality food at an affordable price. A holistic approach will look at lifestyles, money relationships, social support networks and all factors affecting household income and food, in order to build a long term picture to assist inform local community plans around community food insecurity and personal capacity.

Castlemilk Food Pantry will provide fresh, nutritional, good quality food at a significantly subsidised rate. The model is relatively new to Scotland but has been pioneered successfully in other parts of the UK and across the USA to great success. It will receive and distribute surplus, fit for purpose food, provided through effective partnerships with, e.g. Fareshare Glasgow and will include fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy to offer a quality shopping experience.  As opposed to the foodbank model of free crisis, provision the Pantry will offer a more dignified alternative to address the significant food security issues, which exist within the community.
