Stay Back Says Stig

26 April 2019

Ben Collins featured as “the Stig” on BBCs Top Gear and has recently joined a new safety campaign to highlight the dangers of tailgating to drivers.

One in eight of all road casualties are caused by people driving too close to the vehicle in front with more than 100 people killed or seriously injured every year.

Nine out of ten people have been or seen tailgating whilst driving and a quarter of drivers have admitted to tailgating.

Some people choose to tailgate out of frustration or other reasons but, the vast majority of drivers simply don’t realise how close they are to the car in-front.

Being too close reduces reaction time, visibility and being able to stop safely.

Tailgating also makes the driver in front feel targeted and victimised, resulting in them being distracted from the road ahead and more likely to make a mistake.  It can be intimidating and frightening when on the receiving end and if that results in a collision people in both vehicles could be seriously injured or killed.

Using the two second rule in normal driving conditions and four seconds in poor weather or light can save lives.

Make sure you can count at least two Mississippi’s between you and the vehicle ahead.

Travel safely…Stay Safe, Stay Back!
