EVH Chair, Clare Newton, handed over a cheque for £52542 to Grace Wilson from CHAS (Childrens Hospice Association Scotland) on Thursday 23 February at Robin House in Balloch. A small delegation of committee and staff visited the Hospice to see first hand how their fundraising helped to improve the short lives of such deserving children.
EVH have visited the Hospice in the past but this was the first time that they had been invited when the hospice was in use and it was heartwarming to see the children so happy with so many activites to keep them busy and parents at ease knowing that their children are in the best care possible.
EVH began fundraising for CHAS in 2003, their 25th anniversary year. They chose CHAS because, being a Scotland based organisation, they wanted the money raised to help a Scottish charity, which would benefit both rural and urban areas. Universal support from their member organisations was also very important. Over the last 8 years money has been raised in a variety of ways including participation in sponsored walks, jogs, creation and sale of a video dedicated to EVH former chairperson Betty Stevenson MBE, a cycle from Glasgow to London, prize draws at every event and conference they attend and an annual prize draw for member organisations. Last year they completed a sponsored 'welly walk' from Crianlaroch to Tyndrom which raised over £1800 alone with generous sponsors from our members and other supporters.
This year EVH plan to raise their 'game' and details of how they will be doing this will be released soon - watch this space!
